Terra Vitis members are the creators, actors and ambassadors of our approach. They bring to life each of the Terra Vitis commitments, and for 25 years they have been helping draw up the good practice principles of sustainable viticulture.
Our network works with our members – grape farmers and winegrowers – on a daily basis, helping them use more sustainable viticultural methods: this is our key objective.
The Terra Vitis certification reassures consumers that the wine they buy has been made according to our high standards, and guarantees its traceability. With this in mind, we work closely with cooperative wineries and wine merchants who make wine from certified grapes, and thus these wineries and merchants are valued Terra Vitis intermediaries.
Terra Vitis growers are committed to sustainable winemaking, taking a global approach from vineyard to wine glass. They do everything possible to respect the environment and the people around them, and to ensure the long-term future of their estates.

Be they grape farmers or winegrowers, Terra Vitis members share a passion for living soils and vines. They share values and have all made a commitment to a sustainable, responsible approach, making quality wines with respect for mankind and the environment.
Terra Vitis does not grant certification to cooperative wineries or wine merchants but they are nevertheless essential to sustainable viticulture and our association’s approach. Although they work in very different ways, cooperative wineries and wine merchants are fundamental to the Terra Vitis certification process. We have to be able to guarantee the traceability of the wines we certify from start to finish, which means inspecting all the estates that play a part in the production process.
Cooperative wineries are structures comprising many grape farmers – the coop members – who pool their crop to make wine. They also focus on improving their grape farming practices by sharing personal experience, which helps them respond to new environmental challenges.
Wine merchants (négociants) work in a different way. They blend wines from various different estates, to be able to sell larger volumes. Some even choose to buy fruit from grape farmers and then vinify the grapes themselves before blending.
For a grape farmer or winegrower, choosing to join the Terra Vitis network
is a choice that is demanding for you and your production:
It means using all possible means to guarantee a balance between the earth, mankind and wine farming, following strict, specific rules relating to viticulture, created by – and for – winegrowers.
It means demonstrating and promoting your commitments and best practice in favour of sustainable viticulture.
It means being part of a strong, committed group whose aim is to make quality wine, while respecting nature and mankind.
It means upholding your connection to your vineyards, to the planet and to healthy, sensible farming practices.
It means being guided and supported by a network of highly experienced professionals across France who will help you make progress in responsible, sustainable farming.
It also means being able to use the Terra Vitis certification, officially recognised by the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food, and by the wine sector.
Becoming a member of Terra Vitis means choosing an alternative path that allows viticulture to be 100% sustainable.

Our members are the beating heart of Terra Vitis, but nothing would be possible without our partners, all of whom share the Terra Vitis values and convictions.
Some have been working with us for a long time – like Agridemain, a body that brings together the agricultural sector’s main trade organisations with a shared vision – while others have become involved more recently. Some of our regional representatives are technical advisors to Chambers of Agriculture, and they are key Terra Vitis partners. Our partners are also the distributors who make Terra Vitis wines available to consumers, be they well-known supermarket groups or smaller businesses.
Independent wine shops are also essential partners, as are the restaurateurs who encourage their customers to try certified wines and thus support our sustainable winegrowers’ approach.
Terra Vitis is delighted to be a member of the Sustainable Wine Roundtable (SWR) which is a collaborative platform to advance sustainability across the global wine industry from production to retail. SWR is the only global, independent, non profit, multi stakeholder roundtable and its 70+ members are advancing their sustainability impact through best practice sharing and collaborative initiatives so that collectively we can be sustainability leaders.
Are you a wine shop owner, supermarket buyer or restaurateur? If you’d like to include Terra Vitis-certified wines in your portfolio, please get in touch so we can discuss your needs together and find the best possible solution.
Are you a member of the public who would like to support Terra Vitis? When choosing your next bottle of wine, look for the Terra Vitis certification and be sure that you are buying a sustainably-produced wine.
By doing this your purchase becomes an eco-friendly act and helps ensure that the practices of the entire sector change to become more sustainable, in relation to vines, the planet and mankind.
