With its mosaic of terroirs, France’s wine industry is above all a story of diversity. Diverse soils, climates, grape varieties, expertise and traditions which, when combined, have earned France its historic reputation of a wine country par excellence. To reflect this wealth of difference, Terra Vitis has seven regional branches.
These local branches provide a link between member winegrowers and the Fédération Nationale, so that the reality on the ground can be taken into account at all levels, in particular to ensure the rigorous but realistic specifications for Terra Vitis certification. This local presence allows us to support the grape farmers and winegrowers who join our network, while respecting their savoir-faire and their specific terroir.
Working together, we strive to meet the challenges of the future of winegrowing while safeguarding the age-old traditions on which the reputation of French wines is based, with a priority for respecting people and the planet.

Our regional branches are located in all of France’s major winegrowing areas. Certain branches span several wine-producing regions (there are 17 in the country) to ensure a strong local presence in the field.
Terra Vitis was founded in Beaujolais in 1998. This wine region is best known for its famous Beaujolais Nouveau, but Beaujolais vineyards produce a wide variety of wines, mostly – though not exclusively – red. The sustainable winegrowers of the Beaujolais region have a great deal to offer…
Shortly after the founding of Terra Vitis, the commitment to sustainable viticulture and respect for the environment resonated in the vast, renowned vineyards of the Loire Valley, where a second regional branch was created in 2000. From the Pays Nantais (home of Muscadet) to the Auvergne, via the vineyards of Anjou and Sancerre to the hillsides of the Côte Roannaise, the Loire Valley boasts a wealth of sustainably-made wines.
In the same year the Rhône Méditerranée regional branch was created, bringing together wine regions from Provence to Languedoc, the largest wine region in France. The vineyards in this region include those of the Rhône Valley and its famous crus such as Châteuneuf-du-Pape and Crozes-Hermitage. The south of France is also the oldest wine region, with the first vineyards introduced by the Phoenicians over 2,600 years ago. This vast area produces all types of wine: whites, reds, rosés, sparkling and still, dry and sweet. Visit our members and try them…
A strong contender for the most internationally reputed wine area in France and the country’s second-largest wine region, Bordeaux formed a regional Terra Vitis branch in 2002. Even if you are already familiar with Bordeaux wines, why not follow an alternative wine route and discover the nuances of the sustainable wines produced by Terra Vitis members?
The vineyards of Champagne are among the most prestigious in France. Here, the grapes are harvested only by hand to avoid damaging them. The regional branch of Terra Vitis was created in 2012 and today includes several family-owned estates, the majority of which produce sustainable champagnes from their own grapes. Our Champagne members also produce still wines, which are less well known but well worth discovering.
Best known for Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris, Alsace vineyards benefit from their rich soils. The region’s wines – white, red or rosé, still or sparkling – are reputed for their elegant aromatic palette, which you can enjoy by visiting the Terra Vitis winegrowers who formed a regional branch here in 2014.
Our newest regional branch is Terra Vitis Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, created in 2018, which unites the vineyards of Burgundy and its exceptional crus, Jura and its characteristic vin jaune, and Haute-Saône, whose wines are a well-kept secret. Today, sustainable viticulture is now part of the landscape.
